From Andy Wright, Hambleton Grove, Knaresborough.
IN MAY 2007 Knaresborough elected 15 Liberal Democrats into all the seats on Knaresborough Town Council. It is not good for any council to have all the councillors from any political party. Alternative views should always be voiced, even if they are rejected.
What always happens when a council has only one political group is that the arguments change from political debates to personal quarrels. Knaresborough Town Council has been no exception. However councillors are elected for four years and it is irresponsible for councillors to resign before their term is up; except in the most unusual circumstances.
One resignation is regrettable, two resignations is alarming and three resignations is totally unacceptable, especially within one year.
Each by-election costs approximately £8,000 from the public purse. Money that could be much better spent.
These resigning councillors should be forced to pay for the by-elections caused by their acts.
